About the City of Mableton
The land in present-day southern Cobb County belonged to the Cherokee and Creek. There were settlements in the area where the Nickajack Creek converged with the Chattahoochee River. The city got its name from Robert Mable, a Scottish immigrant who purchased 300 acres in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1832. The historic Robert Mable House and Cemetery is today used as the Mable House Arts Center.
The population in the area grew and the city was briefly incorporated in 1912. A referendum passed in 2022 recreating the city. Today, it is the largest in Cobb County by population with over 40,000 people.
